Detailed figurative imagery is depicted within small plaques of glass dating from the 1st century B.C. to the 1st century A.D. and often attributed to the glassworkers of Alexandria, Egypt. How were these colorful images created?
Documentation is shown of the step-by-step reproduction of a rectangular bar of mosaic glass showing a half-face image. When a slice of glass taken from that bar is placed alongside another slice from the same bar, the design showing the full face is completed.
Examples of other highly complex mosaic glass cane reproductions with the component parts used in their construction are also shown.
